&&& Perfection is so Imperfect[x]OPEN[x] « Thread Started on Feb 26, 2007, 6:57pm »
Phoenix Devarough walked through the park at 10:30 PM on a quiet Saterday night. She'd been having a long day and couldn't make plans so she left things open. Now, she foudn herself bored and alone in a children's playground. She was barefoot to top it all off since she'd been down at the beach earlier and her mom had come to grab her stuff when she drove back to the house, Pheo planned on walking. She wore a long, flowy chocolate brown skirt and a light pink tank top with a lightweight sweater over top. Her swim suit was still damp beneath her clothes.
She hadn't made plans because her mom had been fighting with Grey that morning, the usual fight. He wanted to go over and help dad, just like her... She sighed and walked across the still warm sand in the play center and wandered over to the swings. Moments like these made it feel like she was back in California again... She slipped her butt onto one of those swings and began to rock back and fourth like a child. She then let it go higher and higher till she could look out over the ocean water ahead. Stars showered the world despite their island being so far from everything else. She let herself release it all and be free of everything. She let herself forget the pain and sadness so many people felt and the depression that was sweepign over the entire world. She just let herself swing, swing and fly. She was Phoenix Devaough, a free spirit at last. Her eyes caught their laughing accent again and she felt like her old self again... She felt free and open and like nothing could pull her down off her little cloud in the sky.
"See, nothing's gonna stop me! I can be happy and not feel horrible for one second of my life!" she called out into the night determinedly.

Could one second, one small moment, really change your life forever. Could everythinng seem to come crashing down on you without warning and without mercy? Melody debated with herself in her head about these questions as she walked through the cemetary. After all that had happened to her she found the place to be not scary, but quite soothing and peaceful. Why not hang with the dead people? It's not like they would annoy you. Melody giggled slightly, which was a suprise, and then pulled down her jean shorts that were sadly frayed to the extreme around the hems and then hugged herself rubbing her arms because she only had on a tanktop. The back wrist warmers would surely warm her arms that had broken out in goosebumps. She hoped so anyway. She hated being cold. Wiggling her toeas in her boot clad feet she wished she could kick them off and run through the beach, not this beach though. Melody missed the beach at home.
Melody sighed and openened the little metal gate. It squeaked praking through the silence of night, and Melody grimaced slightly. She hated that noise it was annoying to her. It broke through the steady stream of thought that were falling through her head in a knot of utter confuson. She glared down at the gate and walked through it gently swinging it shut.
People just want to see me bend and break, don't they? Melody said as she headed down the road towards the playground. She wanted to sketch the moon from that viewpoint because she found it most beautiful in that place and this time. She found that it acted like a blanket from the dark that would let all her fears melt away. It's light protected her. Reaching the start of the park she heard Pheo scream, "See, nothing's gonna stop me! I can be happy and not feel horrible for one second of my life!" Melody laugheds rather loudy, grabbing her stomach for support. Once recovered from her burst of laughter she said into the darkness, Well, I'm glad to hear that Miss Pheo. It is a tremendously huge relief off of my strained shoulders. Now, maybe I can worry more about if I am going to pass my World History test or something of that nature. Although, I always worry about you. One second passes to quickly after all" she giggled and sat down on the vancant swing on the swing set. Looking up at the streams of stars she smiled as a shooting star streaked the sky and disappeared behind the moon, "I'm gonna draw that instead." she said kind of to herself.

Phoenix laughed as soon as she heard Mel arrive, her best friend always made things fun. She instantly stopped and jumped off the swing in mid swoosh and landed on the sand with a light crash, "Mel-Bear!!!" she shrieked laughingly, "Ooo, sketchage?" she asked smiling, she knew her friend loved to draw, "Oh yeah, I've most likely got the same test... Don't you just love how teachers encourage team effort in everything but test taking? They've got it out for us, I tell you!!!" Pheo said, she was happy to see Mel, it made things way more fun. She also knew that of all the people in the world, Mel ws one of the few who understood a fight in the Devarough family. Heck, Mel practically was an honorary Devarough anyways.

Melody laughed again from what Pheo had said. It was so true what she had said about tests and teamwork. It really made no sense. Mel smiled, Phoenix could always make her happy when things were rough and she liked that about her. Pheo could make anyone smile really. Getting up from the swing the girl said with amusement in her voice. "They do encourage teamwork for those who are willing ro cheat. They practically give us a free ride to do it, always saying don't cheat. I will know, and you will suffer the consequences. I mean they make it tempting." Mel giggled lightly at the thought then said, "Yeah, I came out to draw, but the cemetary didn't hold any inspiration so I came here. Then you were here, which malkes it 100 times better. Especially since Jared and Grams are fighting, again. That's no news to anyone tey fight all the time." Melody sighed at the thought then looked back up at the moon wiith a smile. She loved Phoenix as if she was her sister.

"Seriously..." Pheo laughed at the entire test taking agreement. She sighed, hearing that Mel was in a similar boot as her, "Jeez, what's it a full moon, right? I mean, Mom and Grey are fighting too... It must be something in the air tonight." she said recklessly. It was late but she had no desire to go home any time soon. "Hey Mel, do you ever wish you could go to Hale?" she asked now after a brief silence, "I mean, you know, it's all happening there. Jacks is there, my dad's there. If Carly were still around, she'd be there..." she dared to mention their old friend. She knew how Mel knew Carly like she did. It was a disastor the day they lost her to Nax IP3. Mel was one of the few people who knew the two straight summers when Pheo had a crush on Carly's older brother David. Pheo was devastated when David moved away and then she moved over to Ardwind. If Mel and Tabby hadn't come to the island too, she would've given up on it all ages ago. She sighed again letting the summer air fill her lungs. She looked over at Mel, "Hey, thanks Mel, for just being here..." she said quietly, an almost whisper.

Shaking her head back and fourth at what Pheo had said about her mom and Grey fighting. She hated when people fought. They just wasted precious time, and in the process they solved nothing by doing so. It bothered her deeply because lately every last second seemed to count. Time seemed to go by to quickly, and that didn't help matters. After being silent for a minute and breathing in the fresh air to calm her she plopped down on the sand and said, "Yeah, full moon. Ful moons usually mean good, but tonight the tables seem to have turned." Melody rubbed her eyes, not from tiredness, but from anger and practically whispered, "Of course I want to go to Hale. I feel worthless over here. Like I am just letting everyone important die. Sometimes I just wish I could run away from here. Not be held down by the invisible "parental strings that hold me here and go help. Like, I want to scream. I really do." Mel went quiet for a second and closed her eyes, "everyone says that we would only be a burden if we go to Hale, but the people we love are there. They expect us to just sit here. It makes me feel worthless." she went quiet again noticing she had went on one of her many rambles and rubbed her hands together just to be doing something.
Maybe she'd started to ramble because it still hurt her to talk about Carly in a way. Her mom was one of her best friends and Carly had been as well. Mel was afraid of that happening to her mom. If it did she would be left with two sister's that were really bratty, her suicidal grandma, and her step-dad who only cared about himself. Melody swore he showed no bit of emotion as to what was going on over at Hale. She betted even more that he had just been using her mom, but she couldn't be sure of that one. All she knew is she didn't want her mom to die.
"Carly, I miss Carly. I miss Miranda and my nephew, Zander. I miss David and everyone else. They were my oxygen that set off the fire inside me whilst letting me breat as well. One secon can change your life can't it?" Melody asked, sort of to herself in answer to the question se had been thinking about all day. She looked at Phoenix a sadness in her eyes, but there was also a hopeful optimism in them, "if you weren't here I would die." she said back in a soft voice, "you make me sane." she smiled at Pheo stilll thinking about leaving the island and helping everyone. It was all she had to hope for.

Pheo loked over at Mel with a sadness that she could feel tehy both held strong. "Hey mel, without you, I'd have gone crazy ages ago." she said truthfully, "You know what? My mom and Grey had to drug me to get me on this stupid island. I hated them both for a week after I woke up here, in a new place, a place that held so little hope for me. I wished that I coudl just get as far away from them as possible. I knwo they only wanted to keep me safe but there are more important things out there. I mean, Jacks, dad, your mom, everyone needs our help and waht are we doing?! We're sitting about on this stupid island saving our own necks instead of theirs!" Pheo felt like screaming and crying at the same time but somehow held it back, she'd been doign that all the time lately.
"If we got the chance, would you go with me? We coudl sneak off and go to Hale and try to help them find the cure..." she said knowing if they did do this, it would take time and preparation. "We need to do somethign eventually. I mean, once you're in Hale, they don't let you turn back and I have to see Jackie and my dad again and I'm sure you won't go without seeing your mom and I can't just sit here Mel! This sucks, this sucks beyond belief!" she said runnign out of words to describe how much this depressed her.

Melody listened to every word Pheo was saying with a frown on her face. She sighed and said, “I would have gone crazy without you too. My friends keep me sane, especially you.” Melody started to bite her thumb in thought as Pheo went on talking. She wanted to do exactly what Pheo was saying, and she wanted to do it now. If Phoenix wasn’t there she would probably have gone to Hale recklessly without thinking of a plan first. For that she was thankful to Mitty, and she would never let her forget it. Melody sighed and said to her friends drugging statement, “I know how you feel. I hated Jared before we even had to come here. He just doesn’t see the big picture, it’s really bothersome.”
“I would go to Hale with you. I’ve been thinking of going to Hale for a while. I just know that it feels impossible to do. We need a well thought out plan, and we need to take many precautions before we head off to the hospital. It would be stupid to just go there. I don’t think that would accomplish much at all. If you think about it, it would probably just cause problems. We’d end up on the front page of the newspaper, and be the leading story in the news. All I am saying is that if we just go over there. Someone will see us. They probably have like a registration and all that for people who go to Hale. There is probably a lot of files on all of the people, and then when we go over there people would know that we aren’t infected or something. If that happened the disease squad, or whoever, would like pummel us and place us in a confined disease protected holding place. Maybe, they would just let us stay since we would already be there, I really have no clue. Nobody has ever tried to come from Ardwind to help Are efforts would be of no effect.” After saying all that Mel breathed in a fresh batch of cold night hair and looked at Pheo. Her eyes would tell anyone that her thoughts were occupied with plans and ideas, and she looked quite blank faced.
Getting up Melody started to pace back and fourth across the area of the playground. She stopped and kicked one of the metal poles that held up the swing and then sat down on the swing. She didn’t know what to do anymore, and she felt lost. “I feel selfish staying here. I mean its like we care more about ourselves then everyone else that needs help.” A tear feel down Mel’s pale skin as she continued to talk. She had thought she was all cried out by now, but obviously she was wrong, “I can’t stand to stay here much longer, Pheo we need to start making a plan! I want to go to Hale, and I don’t care what anybody says. Nobody can control me. I’m my own person. Hale has been where I want to be since the day I got here. I want to see my mom and Jackie, and everyone else. I want to do something to help, not just sit here without a passion to hope any longer.
