The sun was shining unusually bright in such a dark world today. But Alexa didn't feel like going outside. There were sure to be tons of patients and doctors relaxing in the common to talk to or play games which, but Alexa didn't feel like seeing the same old people today. She'd been living at Hale with her father, brother and sister for nearly two whole months and she was just starting to get sick of it.

Before, the only thing that kept the whole experience from being fun was that most of the people there were sick. Now, however, nothing seemed to cheer her up. The common room was too crowded; the sun was too bright outside; nothing good was ever on tv. The only thing that was working was her laptop. But after spending so much time sending e-mails and entering chatrooms to talk to her friends, Alexa realized just how much she missed seeing them in person.

After a while of standing in the hallways doing nothing, she'd decided to go up to her room and see how her sister was doing. She started climbing the stairs to the second floor, where the room was, but she stopped after four steps and instead of continuing, Alexa sat down right there on the steps and continued thinking her miserable thoughts.
